Unusually warm autumn

An article here describes how the exceptionally warm autumn has led many plants and animals to be seen doing things they wouldn’t normally do till spring — including the arrival of a swallow!

This is part of a larger trend of the natural events of the seasons being disturbed, and could be bad news for species that should be quietening down for winter.

Why is this relevant to business? Because it is part of a wider trend that has a) recently seen Sony turn a $0.8bn forecast profit into a $1.2bn forecast loss, b) seen Thailand slash its growth forecast from 4.1% to 2.6%, and c) is forecast to get much, much worse.

The good news is that similar phenomena have previously been seen in 1975 and 1986.

Both these years preceded unusually hot summers. 1976 1987
